- Symptoms :
- Very frequent and damaging symptoms on peppers and peppers in tropical areas.
- Irregular grey-brown spots on leaves with a dark brown border. These lesions seem to be rarely observed on pepper and pepper leaves (figures 1 to 5).
- Elongated brown and necrotic lesions on stems.
- Damp and amber circular spots, extending and gradually blackening on fruits especially when they turn red (figures 6 and 7). They coalesce when there are several on the same fruit. some fruits can completely rot and become mummified. Alteration of the seeds which take on a rusty hue. Symptoms also appear during fruit storage.
- Signs : presence on the lesions of flat and superficial conceptacles, microsclerotia and acervuli, sometimes distributed in concentric circles (figures 8 and 9). The acervuli produce very numerous spores in mucilaginous masses of pink to orange color. In many species black bristles (or setae) are observed within these structures.

- Colletotrichum spp. reported on chili pepper* : C. acute, C. boninense, C. capsici, C. coccodes, C. dematium, C. gloesporioides, C. scovillei, C. truncatum , C. graminicola , etc.
* These different species seem to express different behaviors on chilli and pepper, not all affecting the same organs on these plants. Note also that some species would in fact be species complexes. In addition, several pathotypes have been reported around the world expressing different pathogenic powers on several species of Capsicum, or even on the same species.
