The imperfect form of Pilidiella diplodiella produces pycnidia subglobular (100-200 µm in diameter) on injured tissue (Figures 1, 2 and 7). These have a central ostiole and gradually turn brown (Figure 3).
The interior of each pycnidia is lined with numerous conidiophores hyaline (figure 4) at the end of which form conidia smooth, unicellular and initially hyaline (figures 5 to 8). Elliptical to ovoid in shape (8-16 x 5-7 µm), these mix over time (Figures 9 and 10).
