Symptoms of Corynespora cassiicola on taro

• Symptoms :
  • Small moist lesions appearing on the upper surface of the leaves, reddish-brown in color (Figure 1).
  • Leaf spots circular to elongated, reddish-brown to blackish, gradually becoming necrotic (figures 2 to 4). Concentric patterns are visible inside, they recall those of a target (target spots) (figure 5).
  • Necrosis and drying of the leaves in the event of heavy attacks (figure 6)

• Signs : Fruiting bodies of the fungus dot the lesions, sometimes giving them a slight dark gray to black tint (Figure 7). They consist of simple conidiophores, more or less brown, bearing conidia isolated or in short chains, cylindrical, straight or curved, subhyaline to olive brown, and septate (5-18 septa).
