Symptoms of Corynespora cassiicola on beans

• Symptoms :
  • Small moist lesions appearing on the upper surface of the leaves, reddish-brown in color (Figure 1).
  • Leaf spots rather circular, beige to brownish gradually becoming necrotic (figures 2 to 8). Concentric patterns are visible inside, they recall those of a target (target spots) (figures 4, 5 and 8).
  • Dark and elongated lesions on stem and petioles (figures 9).

• Signs : Fruiting bodies of the fungus dot the lesions, sometimes giving them a slight dark gray to black tint (Figure 10). They consist of simple conidiophores, more or less brown, bearing conidia isolated or in short chains, cylindrical, straight or curved, subhyaline to olive brown, and septate (5-18 septa).
