Symptoms  on Pepper

  • Organs attacked :
Leaves flowers Fruits Stem

  • Symptoms :
    • Small fatty and translucent lesions appearing randomly on the leaflets or at the edge of the blade, evolving into irregular brown to black spots, locally angular because they are delimited by certain veins. They generally measure a few millimeters in diameter (figures 1 and 2), sometimes more if the presence of water persists on the limb, and are surrounded by a yellow halo. Their center dries out, and the degraded tissues can end up falling off.
    • These spots can extend and merge, altering large sectors of the leaf blade which eventually necrotic and dry out. Strongly affected leaves turn yellow, dry out.
    • Similar but often more extensive lesions on petioles, stem, peduncles and sepals.
    • Falling flowers.
    • Greasy lesions, dark green to black in color on green fruits (figure 3) giving rise to more or less corky and raised, cracked pustules, which can reach 1 cm in diameter. A greasy halo sometimes surrounds them.
  • Signs : no visible signs on the altered tissues.
  • Possible confusion : damage caused by hailstone impacts.
  • Production areas affected :
Mayotte Reunion Guyana Guadeloupe Martinique New Caledonia French Polynesia
