Symptoms of Sclerotium rolfsii on cabbages

  • Organs attacked :
Leaves Collar
  • Symptoms :
    • Moist, brown to brown lesions developing on leaves in contact with or near the ground. These lesions are initiated on leaves from or near the base of the main vein (figures 1 and 2) or randomly on the leaf blade (figure 3). They turn brown and gradually become necrotic.
    • The rot sets in and can gradually reach the collar.
    • Generalized rot in the apple.
    • Wilting, yellowing of leaves, collapse of plants followed by their progressive decomposition.
    • Affected plants distributed in more or less wide foci.
  • Signs : dense whitish mycelium covering the damaged organs (figure 3). Smooth structures, rather spherical (1 to 3 mm in diameter), initially white, then fawn to reddish brown, gradually visible within the mycelium: sclerotia resembling mustard seeds (figure 4).
  • Affected production areas :
Guyana Guadeloupe
