Protection methods

- During cultivation

No control method, no product , can control this disease during cultivation.

It is quite common to bury crop residues in the soil after harvest. The buried plant tissues are abundantly colonized by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lactucae which produces numerous chlamydospores there. Eliminating plants with their root system limits this phenomenon and helps reduce the amount of inoculum left in the plots.

- Next crop

Avoid producing lettuce in an already affected plot, and use healthy seeds and plants.

Of crop rotations help to prevent the onset of this disease. To be effective, they must be sufficiently long (at least 5 years would be necessary),

The soil disinfection has only partially effective and short-lived, because, like all Fusarium , it quickly re-colonize the disinfected soil.

The tools used to tillage in contaminated plots will be well cleaned before use in other healthy plots. It will be the same for the wheels of the tractors. Thorough water rinsing of this material will often be sufficient to rid it of infested soil.

The most effective method of controlling this vascular fusarium wilt is to use resistant varieties . Unfortunately, to our knowledge, no experienced strain has proven to be resistant to this Fusarium .

The protection methods will be completed soon.

NB: The legislation on pesticides evolving very quickly, we advise you to consult the
e-phy site of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries which is an online catalog of plant protection products and their uses, fertilizers and culture media approved in France . This also applies to all biological products based on microorganisms or natural substances.
