Lamiaceaes

 

The Lamiaceae, Labiaceae or Labiaceae are an important family of dicotyledonous plants, most often herbaceous, shrubs and rarely trees or lianas, producers of essential oils, widely distributed around the world and in all types of environments. These include the following genres:

  • Ocimum, the best-known species of which is Ocimum basilicum , the basil ;
  • Mentha , with mints grown as aromatic and condiment, ornamental or medicinal plants ( Mentha spp.);
  • Thymus , and thyme or wild thyme ( Thymus vulgaris ).
