Melon Blight Symptoms

  • Organs attacked :
Leaves

  • Symptoms :
    • Leaf spots initially wet, yellowing, browning, and rapidly becoming necrotic thereafter (Figures 1 to 5). Eventually, a chlorotic border surrounds them (figure 6).
    • These spots sometimes start near the veins which turn brown over a more or less limited portion.
    • Affected tissues become necrotic, and can break down and fall off during very humid periods.
    • Melon leaves dry out completely and remain attached to the plant, erect and curled (Figures 7 and 8).
    • Symptoms progress very rapidly on leaves, plants and in plots.
  • Signs : presence on the underside of the leaf blade of felting whose color varies from light gray to dark mauve (figure 9).
