Rotation and association

  • Definition and role in the reduction of phytosanitary products : rotation is the action of alternating cultivated species (or not) on the same plot during a crop cycle. This is one of the essential principles of integrated production. Rotation contributes to breaking the cycle of bioaggressors, in particular soil pests and pathogenic fungi by the introduction of non-host crops. Thus, the use of phytosanitary products is less than for a monoculture.
Intercropping consists in cultivating several different species simultaneously on the same plot. Crop cycles are parallel or overlapping. Complementarity of species is sought in order to make the system more resilient to pests.
  • Against which pests? Against weeds, pests and soil-borne diseases as far as the rotation is concerned. Against all bioaggressors with regard to the cultural association.
  • On which crops? For rotation: on all annual and semi-perennial tropical crops. For the crop association: on all tropical crops.
  • When ? Upstream of the implementation of a new cultivation system.
  • Regulations : it is forbidden to apply a phytosanitary product to a crop association if it is not approved for each of the crops present. In addition, the pre-harvest intervals must correspond to each of the crops.
  • Working time : it depends on the species cultivated.
  • Compatibility of alternative techniques with each other :
