Main Symptoms

Olpidiumbrassicae is an obligate aquatic fungus. It is associated with a widespread root browning of tobacco seedlings. In floating seedbeds severe root necrosis (or breakdown) may occur affecting the plant parts suspended in the nutrient solution.

The affected plants grow slowly; they are chlorotic and sometimes wilt and dessicate..

Some of the information on the worldwide distribution of the disease is obtained from surveys conducted by CORESTA (Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco). The reliability of the information is not confirmed in all countries.
