Pseudomonas syringae pv. aptata *
(Brown & Jamieson 1913) Young, Dye & Wilkie 1978
Bacterial blight
- classification : Bacteria, Proteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Pseudomonadales, Pseudomonadaceae
- English name: bacterial blight
The first symptoms of bacterial blight in melon were observed in France in 1993, with fruit rots appearing in melons in Tarn-et-Garonne. Subsequently, regular and severe epidemics were recorded in this region, in particular from 1995 to 1997. During this last year, a state of natural disaster was declared in several affected plots in this department, but also in the Lot. The production of some plots was reduced by 80% or even 100%. Subsequently, the disease gradually spread to other French production areas, with damage being recorded for example in the South-East in 2002.
It should be noted that this bacteriosis is very difficult to control due to the lack of sufficiently effective protection methods.
