Main symptoms

 
  • Rather firm and slowly evolving changes are sometimes observed on grape berries invaded by Alternaria spp. . These alterations are often initiated in the pedicellar zone of berries, they are reddish to light brown at the start of development (depending on the grape variety) and gradually darken thereafter (Figures 1 to 3).
  • A greenish to blackish felting, formed by the mycelium and conidiophores bearing conidia, sometimes covers the lesions (Figure 4) or appears at the level of the bursts present on certain berries.
