Alternaria spp.*

Rots in Alternaria

The Alternaria spp. are very cosmopolitan fungi, frequently isolated on plants, in the soil and various substrates ... Several species are pathogenic on a large number of plants, others are more saprophytic or opportunistic parasites. These fungi are ubiquitous in the environment and are part of the fungal flora of many plants in particular. They also contribute to their decomposition.

They are one of the most frequent molds on grape berries. It is therefore not surprising that certain species sometimes thrive on them and degrade them.

Alternaria alternata is the most reported species on vines, causing brown to black rot that can spread to all the clusters.
