Sparganothis pilleriana

(Denis & Schiffermüller 1775)

Pyrale

  1. pilleriana , commonly known as the fruit moth, is one of the fruit moths most commonly found in European vineyards. The caterpillar of this butterfly is among the major pests that require constant monitoring and control.

The moth is more present in the vineyards located in the north of France. It performs only one generation per year (univoltine). In our climates, like many insects, grapevine budworms undergo a winter diapause, the triggering factor of which is the reduction of the length of the day. In the borer, diapause is obligatory.
