Argyrotaenia ljungiana (Thunberg 1797)

Eulia or Grape tortrix

  1. ljungiana, commonly known as Eulia, is an insect belonging to the grape budworm family. This butterfly is present in Europe and causes damage on berries as well as on leaves. It performs 2 to 3 generations per year depending on climatic conditions. In our latitudes, like many insects, grape berry moths have a winter diapause.

The Eulia has only been observed on vines in France since the 1950s, its first attacks were detected in the Languedoc area. It is also a pest of forests and orchards. Its damage is observed nowadays mainly in the Alsace region, undoubtedly due to its proximity to Switzerland where it has been rife for a long time. It is also found sporadically in Languedoc.
