Protection methods
Confronted with Pseudocercospora fuligina , crop rotations will be carried out. The plants should be staked and the planting density reduced. Plantations next to other sensitive Solanaceae (pepper, eggplant) should be avoided and black nightshade will be eliminated from plots and their surroundings.
Fungicide treatments will be carried out as soon as the very first symptoms are observed. Chlorothalonil seems to be a good anti-Pseudocercospora.
Sprinkler irrigations should be avoided, or they will be carried out during the day in order to allow the vegetation to dry quickly.
Trellising and leaf stripping improve aeration of the crop and the plant cover; plants will therefore be less vulnerable to this disease.
There are differences in sensitivity between varieties. Sources of resistance have been identified, in particular from Lycopersicon esculentum and L. hirsutum .
This fungus is easily maintained on plant debris, it will be essential to eliminate the latter during cultivation and once it is over.
