Bugs
Several bug species have been observed in tobacco plants. Even if they are not all harmful some of them may cause damage (bug damage). The following symptoms have been observed :
- Total or partial wilting of leaves. Then some wilted leaves may turn partially yellow and necrotic (see the fact sheet of Bug damage). In most cases the causal insect can be easily found.
- More or less profound lamina deformations that tend to curl. These symptoms appear after a bug bite on the midrib (figures 2 and 3).
First these symptoms can be found on isolated plants and on one or a few leaves per plant.
The most common harmful species are of different size, form and embellishments. Among them one can mention Carpocoris verbasci, Carpocoris lunula, Nezara viridula, Palomena prasina, Strachia oleracea...
